Families & Friends celebrate at this year's annual BBQ!
Our Project READ community of learners, families, tutors and volunteers came together last weekend at the Redwood City Community Activities Building to celebrate another year of dedication and commitment to literacy.
All of our learning pairs and students that have been working towards their literacy goals for at least six month were given certificates. Two of our long-time families, the Curincita Family & the Reyes/Campos Family were honored this year with the Spirit of Project READ Award for exceeding their literacy goals and giving back to the Project READ community.
DJ High Top kicked off the event, as kids and adults alike danced and enjoyed the music. From jump rope contests to face painting, the fun and food continued all day long. The interior space was colorfully decorated with artwork and backdrops created by youth & adult learners throughout the year, representing inspirational artists throughout history. A Redwood City Fire truck came in the afternoon -- a kid favorite of the day! Thank you to the Redwood City Fire Department.
Families were able to get their photographs taken to bring home as a reminder of day, as well as the family books , The Dot and Ish by Peter Reynolds. Project READ Board members (RCFOL) gave out art supplies to bring art into all of our families' homes.
None of this could have been possible, of course, without the help of our incredible community and Hands On Bay Area (HOBA) volunteers who helped everywhere from the kitchen to the craft tables.
Just one more reminder of how our community comes together to support and celebrate each other.
