Our annual BBQ & Awards ceremony brought together close to 350 Project READ learners, tutors, families and supporters to celebrate another year of success. Two long-time Project READ families were honored this year with Spirit Awards, the Nunn Family and the Santiago/Torres Family. The dedication these two families share continue to inspires us all. From learners to tutors to volunteers, these families play strong roles in our Project READ community.
DJ High Top kicked off the festivities, ending the day in the ever popular dance and hula hoop competitions, where a lucky few went home with Starbucks and Jamba Juice gift cards. The Redwood City Fire Department brought a fire truck for the kids to explore,
a crowd favorite. And thanks to help of volunteers and generous families, there was a lot of BBQ and food to be had and cotton candy and popcorn throughout the day!
Kids took part in outside games, craft projects, face painting and science experiments including ice excavation and homemade ice cream-in-a-bag.
RCFOL, our board, gave beautiful books to all our families and art supplies to the children. All of the decorations were created by our learners, teen tutors and families, tying into our theme of our Project READ Community. It was a great day to
celebrate an amazing community. See you all again next year!
Thank you to all of our generous volunteers!
