Project READ's SAFE program is in partnership with Sequoia High School and serves 25 young learners and teen tutors in a dual-intervention literacy program. The Project READ SAFE program (Sequoia After-school Focused Enrichment Program) was created to help academically at-risk teens build upon their own reading, writing and critical thinking skills, while helping improve the literacy skills of our younger elementary school students. Through the process, these teens become mentors to our young learners and build self confidence while giving back to their community. All learners benefit from the community building aspect of this program and improve their reading skills.
Our SAFE learners and tutors started back again at Project READ Monday for their first meeting of 2018. Students and learners take part in literacy learning, STEAM activities, and individualized learning based on students' reading levels and academic needs.
