2018 Project READ BBQ & Awards Ceremony

Our annual BBQ & Awards Ceremony brought together 350 learners, tutors, families, volunteers and literacy supporters to celebrate another year of success. Each year we come together to recognize the hard work and dedication of our learners and tutors in a fun day of music, dancing, games and food!

This year Redwood City Mayor, Ian Bain spoke to our families about the importance of their strides toward a more literate future. We honored long-time tutor Karen Schwartz and her two learners Carlos and Juan for their commitment to their literacy and learning goals.

The theme of our event was The Magic School Bus, a favorite book series among our

families. Large scale artwork created by Project READ students and tutors decorated the walls, including those donated by our incarcerated adult learners at McGuire Correctional Facility. Children were able to explore one of Redwood City's fire trucks and take part in games and craft projects. The DJ kept our families on their feet through the afternoon. All families were given new books to build their home libraries. It was a great day for Project READ families and community.

Thank you to all that came out to celebrate and help make this day happen!
