2019 BBQ & Awards Ceremony

Over 200 learner, tutors, families and friends attended Saturday's annual BBQ & Awards Ceremony,

where we honored our learners' and tutors' dedication to literacy and celebrated all of their achievements. From food to face painting, it was a day filled with celebration.

A local DJ kept families on their feet all afternoon dancing, and the fire fighters from Redwood City Fire Department brought one of their fire engines for the kids to explore. Kids participated in outside games, art projects, face painting and experiments. And all day long volunteers helped keep the BBQ going with an endless amount of food.

The theme of this year's BBQ was California, and large scale backdrops created by learners and tutors hung throughout the large room in the Community Activities Building in Redwood City. All learners and tutors were awarded certificates to commemorate a year of hard work. The Albarran-Aca family, who have been a part of Project READ for many years, were honored this year with the Spirit of Project READ Award for embodying the mission of our program and committing tireless hours to improving their own literacy skills. Each year we are inspired by the people honored with this award.

It was a beautiful way to celebrate an extraordinary group of people.
