Welcome back to Stories & STEAM! Today we're reading about and trying out some digging or rather excavating. Join along as we read, "HOW I BECAME A PIRATE" by Melinda Long and David Shannon, then try an excavating experiment in your own home.


HOW I BECAME A PIRATE

Ice Excavation

Ice Excavation Directions


Materials:

  • Items to freeze (coins, rings, gems, figures)

  • Balloons or plastic bag to freeze items in

  • Art trays

  • Toothbrushes

  • Nail brushes

  • Pipettes

  • Salt, regular & kosher

  • Towels/rags

  • Water

  • Water cups


Ahead of Time Prep (at least 48 hours)

  • Freeze items in balloons filled with water

Directions:

  1. Remove the ice out of the bag and place it on top of your tray.

  2. Add some salt on your ice block and spread it out with your toothbrush.

  3. Use your tools to find out which one works best!

  4. Have fun and find lots of treasure!

Materiales:

  • Elementos para congelar (monedas, anillos, gemas, figuras)

  • Globos o bolsa de plástico para congelar artículos

  • Bandejas de arte

  • Cepillos de dientes

  • Cepillos de uñas

  • Pipetas

  • Sal, regular y kosher

  • Toallas / trapos

  • Agua

  • Tazas de agua


Preparación con anticipación (al menos 48 horas)

  • Congelar elementos en globos llenos de agua.


Direcciones:

  1. Saca el hielo de la bolsa y colócalo encima de tu bandeja.

  2. Agregue un poco de sal en su bloque de hielo y extiéndalo con su cepillo de dientes.
