Spreading the Holiday Cheer at Our December Story Hour

12.11.2018

Close to 200 learners and families took part in our Holiday Story Hour & Gift Giving Workshop. This annual event is well loved by families and the community. Each year we are reminded of the magic of this season, as families and volunteers gather together to celebrate the holidays.

Hands on Bay Area volunteers helped out again this year, distributing books, preparing and helping children with crafts and even taking part in our Secret Shopper area. Students create gifts for their families, while parents "shop" among donated items in secret for their children. Gifts include books, craft supplies, games and more. This Project READ tradition insures that everyone will have a gift to open for the holidays.

Lori & RJ, local children performers led an interactive performance that included dancing, singing and instruments that all family members took part in. Thanks to Second Harvest Food Bank, families were able to take home nutritious food bags.

Because of one family's generosity, 100 holiday bags filled with toys, beanies, gloves and candy were given to each of our families. The Crum family, both supporters and tutors, have donated this gift each year during this event. And each year, we are reminded of the importance of community. Families also went home with a new family book and many other books selected from our book table. We always look forward to our holiday event, where are families and volunteers come together to celebrate the spirit of the holiday season.
