Become A Virtual Tutor During COVID-19

 

Due to COVID-19, we are no longer holding in-person tutor trainings. We are developing a virtual tutor training for new volunteers. All tutoring is currently taking place virtually for the safety of our tutors, learners and families. Project READ matches trained tutors with students who are on the waiting list based on their mutual interests, schedules and teaching and learning preferences. 2020 Tutor Training Dates

Tutors complete 15 hours of tutor training prior to being matched with a learner.

 

2020 Dates: TBD

 

Throughout the year we offer continued support and resources for our tutors and learners. Tutoring schedules for tutor/student pairs are individualized, with pairs meeting at a mutually acceptable time in the Project READ Family Literacy Instructional Center, at home, or other community-based sites, typically three hours per week. 

Kids in Partnership:

Teen Tutoring (Matched): Attend the first four sessions of our five evening tutor training (dates above). Work with a coordinator to be matched with a specific student and learn about your student’s goals and interests. Tutor once or twice weekly at a set time, based on your available schedule.

 

Family Literacy Instructional Center:

Teen Tutoring (Drop in): Attend one afternoon of tutor training (dates below). Tutor a young student on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays between 3:30-7:30pm for at least 1 hour per week at Project READ. Tutoring sessions are focused on literacy learning, homework and enrichment activities.
